RESIDENT TEAMS
Going on a mission is both serious and fun - remember that you will be working for God in a team with others who know Him.

There are three steps that must be taken to make the mission a success this year:

STEP ONE: preparation

To boldly go where you haven't gone before you must:

1. Pray – spend time with God in prayer before you join the team. If possible ask your church and friends to pray for you.
2. Acquaint yourself with the customs and culture of the country you will be visiting in order to avoid offense.
3. Learn a few helpful phrases to let the people know you want to show friendship towards them.
4. Be aware of what is expected of you in terms of dress and behaviour.

STEP TWO: mission

God's Word reminds us that we are involved in a spiritual battle ( Ephesians 6:12 ) so for our part as players, let us remember that we are to be:

Servants
- A servant-like attitude will show itself in:
- Respecting other team members
- A willing and co-operative spirit
- A flexible and positive attitude
- Acknowledging that the team leader has ultimate responsibility for those in his care. Accept his decision and seek approval for activities outside the official match programme.

Ambassadors
For GLO and all it represents as a vehicle for spreading the Gospel.
For the resident missionaries who will still be in place after the team has gone. It is all too easy to undo years of faithful work in two weeks by selfish or thoughtless actions. In this regard, exclusive friendships with members of the opposite sex are not encouraged during vacation teams.
Most importantly for the Lord Himself – your attitude towards fellow team members and those you are hoping to reach should be that of Christ.

Guests
Respect your hosts and help out wherever you can.
Don't over react to unfamiliar food or drink offered during the team. It has been graciously prepared so be sensitive.
Respect the accommodation and property of the hosts and fellow team members.

STEP THREE: post mission

Continue to pray for the work after the mission.
Encourage team members by writing regularly, this will also give you fuel for prayer.
Plan a return misson for next year, encouraging others to join the team.

Remember - if the whole team plays by the rules the result will be effective and far reaching.
