BIBLICAL LEADERSHIP

Hi, welcome to Biblical Leadership.

My name is David Clarkson. I have been teaching in Tilsley College, Motherwell, Scotland for some eighteen years during which time we have been developing a range of leadership resources. I will be your tutor for this course and am very much looking forward to working through the material with you.

I suggest you take a few moments to browse the site and get a feeling of the overall content. The FAQ section hopefully will answer many of your questions about the course.

Learning to Lead is not intended as an academic course but rather as an encouragement to personal development. There are no formal essays or exams but students are asked to undertake a reading programme and respond to various assignments and case studies on the Web Board. This will allow a degree of interaction and encourage thought in regard to how the principles of leadership can be applied in a local situation.

Opportunity will also be given for personal reflection to provide students with a measure of how their leadership skills are developing.

Maximum benefit from the course will be obtained by reading the material, thinking through the issues highlighted and interacting with the other students. The Web Board has been set up so that access is only available to registered students.

Using the Course

The course runs from February to November each year and is constructed on a modular basis so it is possible to join at any point and, if your personal circumstances become difficult, you can miss a module and catch up later.

There are five modules each taking six to eight weeks to work through with a two week break between each module. The breaks will allow time to catch up or do additional reading.

The course work will be sent by e-mail at the beginning of each module. A commitment of around two hours per week will enable you to undertake the assignments but additional reading will be recommended from time to time which, if you can manage it, will bring a wider perspective to your thinking.

The course is unashamedly biblical in its approach, hence the title "Biblical leadership", so each section begins by looking at some biblical passages with a view to discerning leadership principles. In applying these principles we may also highlight insights from some of the human sciences. Much of the leadership literature draws examples of best practice from the world of business, politics, sports etc and these can provide helpful modern illustrations.
